Hi,
I’m going to look at a guitar that I’m interested in buying, its advertised as a fender strat but it is painted with "the frankenstrat" markings, the headstock included. So how will I be able to tell if it is a true fender strat or not just some knockoff? Also how can you tell the difference between a mexican made fender and an american made one? Thank you

a friend of mine gave me a Gibson melody maker and according to the serial number its from 1967, made in Nashville U.S.A. its in pretty good condition and im trying to figure out its price range. Its got sort of a wine red paint finish. It also has no pick guard.
Here is the serial number>>00303528
also this info may help.
it says "Made in The U.S.A" on the back of the headstock
both the serial number and the "made in the usa" are imprinted on the headstock(no decal or ink stamp)
AAAHHH!! CORRECTION!! ITS FROM 1976!! NOT 1967!!……….YES…TYPE-O…

it was bought in liverpool england in the 60’s used. it is sunburst, has a diamond similar to the alvarez acoustic guitar logo, it has a perloid/fake perloid picguard, dot inlays, and was made rather cheaply. it was bought for 2 pounds. it has a gold truss rod cover, but that might not be orginal. it has white binding on the body only. the logo on the headstock shows a golden hawk in flight with a scroll underneath it that says "the hawk".
